ABOUT FACES: Art by Heather McComb
Artist Heather McComb reduces a portrait to its raw essentials.
By eliminating distractions such as the hair, neck, shoulders and clothing, the viewer is confronted by the unrestrained emotions of the subject. All emphasis is on the subject's actual face, with their eyes, nose and mouth conveying an intoxicating level of thought and feelings.
Heather had only three drawings in this series which she calls appropriately "About Faces" on view at a Philadelphia studio tour that I recently attended. I hope she continues this effort.
The poignancy of these graphite and charcoal drawings knock me over.
