A member of the Ashcan School, Everett Shinn was an American realist painter who also painted with a group called the "Eight."  His work is hard to categorize because he verged from gritty and realistic to decorative and rococo.  I spotted this painting at the International Fine Arts and Antiques show and I love how these grown men are tearing away as fast as possible from this spooky house.  Happy Halloweeen!!

I also wanted to inform you about two great upcoming events.

First, is a major sale opportunity in NYC.  For the first time ever on this side of the  pond, Chelsea Textiles, together with Holland and Sherry, Treillage, Vaughan and Vanderhurd, will be clearing their coffers with offerings open to the trade and retail.  Expect beautiful embroidered fabrics, pillows, ready made curtains, lighting, rugs, mirrors and home accessories amongst the treasures.  The sale runs from November 6 through November 8.  On November 6 and 7, the hours will be 9 am to 7 pm.  On November 8, the hours will be 9 am to 5 pm.  The sale will be held in Wallace Hall beneath the St. Ignatius Loyola Church , 980 Park Avenue at 84th street.  Did I hear anyone say "Early Christmas shopping?"

The second terrific event is an upcoming lecture series sponsored by the Decorators Club and organized by Emily Evans Eerdmans and Deborah Webster.  Held at the New York School of Interior Design, there will be four talks based loosely on the theatrical aspects of design and entitled "All the World's a Stage."  The first two lectures will be held on November 5 and 12, 2014 and the last two will take place on April 8 and April 29, 2015.  Details are below and on the Decorator's Club website.  Single tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.  You can purchase tickets to the series for $100.
