Don't Miss This At Next Week's Winter Antiques Show
Dubbed the "High Priestess of Historic Wallpaper," Carolle Thibaut-Pomerantz consistently stages one of my favorite booths at New York City's annual Winter Antiques Show. Typically she lines her space with the most gorgeous mural wallpaper that I have ever seen.
I predict that her installation at next week's Winter Antiques Show will be her best.
Winter Antiques Show
For the 2017 Winter Antiques Show, Thibaut-Pomerantz had partnered with gallerist David Gill to present the works of contemporary decorative artist Mattia Bonetti alongside her glorious papers. Mixing old and new is clearly where it is at these days when it comes to showcasing art and furnishings.
Bonetti has even designed a wallpaper for the occasion, named appropriately, "Carolle Lines" after Thibaut-Pomerantz which will hang in her booth together with her historic papers. His furnishings will fill the floor space creating a marvelous tension between modern, vintage and antique.
Mattia Bonetti
Don't know Mattia Bonetti?
Bonetti's work can be found in museums around the world like London's Victoria & Albert Museum, Paris' Centre Pompidou and New York's Cooper-Hewitt. He designs all types of furnishings and lighting. Always starting with a free hand sketch, Bonetti reimagines traditional forms in both glamorous and often whimsical ways. He creatively uses rich materials like patinated bronze, gilding, rock crystal, marble, glass, embroidery and gemstones to give his work a signature stamp. You can see more of Bonetti's work here and here.
I expect that Thibaut-Pomerantz's display of Bonetti's contemporary designs with her historic wallpaper will be unforgettable. Certainly, the advance photos that I have received from Thibaut-Pomerantz, have stopped me in my tracks. I cannot wait to see the installation.
