DESIGN HISTORY REVERIE: Nailhead Trim
Mining the annals of design history is an excellent place to start your design project. These iconic nailhead doors by Jean Royere seem to have launched a thousand ships. I came across them while researching my Designer Who's Who column on Royere. He dubbed them his signature "Sunray" hardware . ( If you read the Designer Who's Who post, you know that the guy had a way with names).
Royere's nailhead hardware immediately reminded me of Tobi Fairley's nailhead trim designs introduced at CR Laine during the 2015 High Point Market. I have no clue if Tobi is aware of Royere's design but there is more than a passing resemblance.
Designer Julie Hillman also came up with a similar (and very attractive) design.
Like all good dreams, this one takes different twists and turns. Ashley Hick's more random placement of nailheads is very engaging, as is the coral-inspired knob.
Before you know it, your dream has led down a wholly new path......
