Ten Questions for the "Sisterhood of the World Blog Awards"
I have often said that blogging brings you to a lovely community of people. Some you are lucky enough to meet in person, and others where your friendship is online. But it is all true friendship. I have found that whenever I happened to meet an online friend, it is as if we had known each other in person all along.
Given my love of my blogging community, I am happy and delighted to have been tapped by Sarah Sarna to participate in the Sisterhood of the World Blog Awards. Sarah has selected ten bloggers, including me, and posed 10 questions, in an effort to get to know our blogging "sisters" better.
Here, I will answer Sarah's questions and then spread the love by choosing my own list of ten bloggers and charging them with answering my ten questions. They in turn pay it forward in a similar fashion.
Let's go.
1. WHAT CELEBRITY ARE YOU SAID TO RESEMBLE?
There are two, Meg Ryan when I was younger (especially when I could wear contact lenses), and Ellen Degeneres today. Who do you think I look like most?
2. IF YOU COULD PICK ANY DESIGNER LIVING OR DEAD TO DECORATE YOUR HOUSE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I take great pride in decorating my own houses but if I had to turn the reins over, I would choose my dear friend Young Huh, and NOT because she is such a good friend.
The reason I would choose Young is because we share a similar sensibility but that girl, dang, she always comes up with some unique twist that just makes the room. Something that no how, no way I would have ever thought of all by myself. I am in awe of her creativity!
3. IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY, WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD DO?
Probably pay cash for a phenomenal apartment in NYC. I moved to a wonderful rental unit last fall and while I adore my place (great views), the decorator in me could happily say no to its mini blinds and decorator white paint color.
4. YOUR FAVORITE ROOM OF YOUR HOUSE AND WHY?
That's easy. My deck in Montauk. Hearing the birds tweet, gazing at Lake Montauk equals instant relaxation.
5. IF YOU COULD REWIND TEN YEARS AND GIVE YOURSELF ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Get a baby sitter (if you need one) and spend more "date" time with your significant other. Seriously do it. I actually got this advice (many parents do), and I wish I had followed it more frequently.
6. WHAT'S THE WORST HAIRCUT YOU HAVE EVER HAD?
My hair rarely looks good. It's so thin and fine that my best bet is to keep it short, but one time, my hairdresser cut it as short as Emma Watson's first pixie. Since I don't have beautiful Emma's face, I looked awful. Happily no pictures of me with that cut exist.
7. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LITTLE LUXURY?
A sweet treat every. single. day. No giving up sugar or gluten for me.
8. NAME A SONG THAT OFTEN GETS STUCK IN YOUR HEAD.
I bet no one is going to know this song. It's a little hint of a side of me I keep pretty private--my faith. It's a song we sing at mass called "On Eagle's Wings" and here is a You Tube of a choir singing it. I think it's beautiful. Wait to get past the ad.
The chorus goes like this:
"And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand."
9. PICK AN ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOK YOU THINK WE ALL SHOULD READ?
Another surprise answer. I am going with my favorite book from childhood, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. A major theme of the book is that the power of positive thinking can bring about great physical and psychological healing. I truly believe that.
10. EVERYONE HAS THEM. WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR GUILTY PLEASURES?
Anyone who knows anything about me, knows the answer to this one. Why shopping of course.
AND NOW FOR MY TEN NOMINEES--I am choosing some friends here, but also some "famous" bloggers who don't know me at all, but whom I admire from afar. Also why stick to women--especially in light of this week's fantastic ruling by the Supremes #lovewins. There are two guys on my list-one old friend and one new.
Krista of Cloth & Kind.
Tami of Cloth & Kind.
Jennifer of Peak of Chic.
Geraldine of Little Big Bell.
Katie of The NeoTradionalist (we really need to catch up girl!)
Will of Bright Bazaar (hope I see you next time you are in the Big Apple!)
Brian of Flynnside Out. When I met Brian at last spring's High Point Market, he said he really wanted to see my house when he heard my eldest son was covered in tattoos and I was ok with it, marveling at what he called my "preppiness." Well I want to know more about you too Brian.
Anne of City Sage- I do hope you take a minute to do this Anne, I so love your writing.
Tina of Life in Sketch.
Raina of A Stylist's Life.
AND NOW FOR MY QUESTIONS:
What is your favorite memory from childhood?
When did you first know you were a creative type?
Other than the city or town you live in now, where would you most like to live?
Who is your role model or mentor?
If you could have any designer, living or dead, to decorate your house, who would that be?
What movie should I next stream on Netflix and why?
If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
Your biggest regret?
Your proudest moment. Let loose and brag, we want to celebrate with you.
I am cooking you a meal. What do you want to eat?
Have fun.
